Visit to Tapiwa Makore's funeral

Seven-year-old Tapiwa Makore was murdered in September 2020 for ritual purposes in Murehwa district North of Harare.

His burial day led us to Murehwa, 44 Shopping Centre turn off. This was our second visit after we went to donate face masks gumboots food and raincoats to children from that village and we were familiar with the place and its expectations. We got up as early as 07:00hrs to converge at the Doves funeral Parlour with the AmenKids team coming from different towns to pray and sing with the family before they left for final resting place in Murehwa. Unfortunately the intended song time and march didn't materialize and we set off to Murehwa ahead of the body.

The place was packed and dusty but the parents accompanying their kids braved all that, even Covid-19 fears, and concentrated on the Mission of empathy and compassion.

Our involvement

We had our satchels, t-shirts and foodstuffs to donate and make the scene merrier for the kids in the community. We desired to change the mood of the little ones who were haunted by the thick cloud of Tapiwa Makore's gruesome murder. The 7 year old victim had sent shivers across the village and as AmenKids family we were to give counseling and an assurance that Jesus Christ loves all and that he provides protection through His divine angels. When the body finally arrived the mood in the vicinity was somber and the atmosphere got tense.

Many Church leaders from across denominations presented powerful speeches of hope as well as AmenKids Team. The kids and parents marched towards the podium when their turn came. The familiar song "Step by Step" ushered the AmenKids Team while loud cheers came from every side. Mr and Mrs Tafira, Cloey Marere, Mrs Shoko and two others were the participants. Ps Gift Shoko delivered a message of hope from the Bible with the words " Let the children come to me for the kingdom of heaven is for such as these". Afterwards Cloey Marere stood to seal the slot with her powerful speech from 1 Thessalonians 4:16-17. It was so powerful.

By the time the boy's remains were to be laid to rest that's when the T-shirts distribution and other staff ensued and the kids from the community were diverted from the sorrow and grief and saw the day in a different perspective. Most importantly was the involvement of kids in reaching out and going to the funeral. We praise God and thank everyone that contributed financially to make the mission to Murehwa a success.

It's a blessing to be involved in Mission; I'm involved so should you. Amen
